Outbound Call Normalization
About Outbound Call Normalization
Outbound calls originating from subscribers are pre-filtered and normalized into a single standard format before reaching Outbound Routes based on the source device. When several rules match a number, the most specific pattern wins (as everywhere in Asterisk), not the row order — use the simulator to check which rule applies.
Routes, trunks and the normalization pages can all change a number, and they run one after the other. See the order and which setting to use.
- Mobile App: Transforms contacts dialed with + or country codes directly into standard national or international formats without requiring an outside line prefix.
- Desk Phones: Can strip an outside-line prefix (e.g. 0 or 9) dialed by desk phone users. The "strip 0" rule is off by default: switch it on only if your desk phone users dial 0 for an outside line, otherwise international numbers (00...) break.
- Web Softphone: Normalizes numbers originating from browser softphones and CRM click-to-dial integrations.
- Internal Extensions & Feature Code Safety: Internal extension calls, IVR menus, queues, and feature codes (*97 etc.) always take precedence and are completely isolated from normalization rules.
Call normalization On
When off, every device dials numbers exactly as entered; the rules are kept but not used.
