SIP Trunk Management

SIP Trunk Management Guide

Defines the signaling and media channels between the PBX and an external system (NEC SV9100), carrier IP-PBX, or SIP provider trunks.

Routes, trunks and the normalization pages can all change a number, and they run one after the other. See the order and which setting to use.

- Transport & Port: UDP 5060 is the default VoIP signaling port.
- T.38 UDPTL: fax over IP. Switch it on only when the carrier supports T.38: a carrier that refuses it makes faxes fail.
- Qualify (Heartbeat): Periodically tests the trunk connection status.
Limits to know
  • Send as E.164 treats a number that starts with the country code as complete. A national number dialled without its national prefix that happens to start with those digits would be sent wrongly, so try your numbering in Try a number.
  • Custom parameters: only option names are checked. Asterisk accepts a wrong value without an error, so test what you changed.
